The Imagined Village

My friends from Dorset have spent some weekends performing roadie duties across this land and Europe for this fine band. Their music is a stunning fusion of English folk with other musical styles and the line up contains a long list of very well known names; including Martin Carthy and his daughter Eliza, Billy Bragg, Sheila Chandra and Paul Weller.

Rather than attempting to describe their style here is a track called Cold Hailey Rainey Night:

For more tracks and details of tour dates check out their own site or their MySpace page.

That was a really great mix of sounds. I imagine to truly appreciate the nature of the music, to hear it live would be best. I kept thinking how stirring it must be to hear their music live.

rt, according to my friends they are a magnificent act live and really cool unassuming people in real life.

Wonderful music but I agree, live is best because the audience introduce a very special dynamic.

Last June at the Wessex Folk Festival with all the folks rocking and reeling around Hope Square, there was no better place.

June 2009 features Martin Carthy and Norma Waterson in concert - we can't wait :-)
